A shirt that fights hunger
A project in a graphic design class has earned a college student much more than an “A.”
Ognen Trpeski, a senior at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J., found out this week that his design will be
featured on a Cheerios box and on T-shirts worn in Korto Momolu’s fashion show during New York Fashion Week 2012 in September.
ShopRite Partners in Caring, in collaboration with General Mills, sponsored the “Knock Out Hunger T-Shirt Design Contest.”
Trpeski, from Paramus, N.J. (by way of Macedonia about 10 years ago), designed a shirt with the theme of “Fight Hunger.
As you can see, it shows a spoon, fork and knife, and the phrase “Choose Your Weapon.”
The final 15 designs in the contest were revealed Tuesday at New York City’s Time Warner Center by celebrity judges Jeannie Mai (host of Style Network’s “How Do I Look?”) and Momolu (from BRAVO’s “Project Runway”).
Cheerios boxes with Trpeski’s t-shirt design will be available at ShopRite stores in the fall. Those boxes also will feature the second- and third-place design winners – Charles Estergren of Egg Harbor Township, N.J., and Michele Guerriero of Surf City, N.J.
ShopRite Partners In Caring works with food industry manufacturers to support charitable agencies in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Delaware, Maryland and Pennsylvania.
Trpeski graduates from William Paterson in May. He told me he hopes to line up a job soon as a graphic designer, and someday open his own multimedia studio.
